City’s emergency management coordinator earns national credential

Ray Gross, the City of Federal Way’s Emergency Management Coordinator, earned his Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credential from the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM).

The CEM designation is the highest honor of professional achievement available from the IAEM, which represents more than 3,200 emergency managers in local, state and federal government, private industry and military emergency managers. There are only 1,207 certified managers in the country.

CEM candidates complete a management essay, a written examination and are also graded on experience, references, education, training and contributions to the profession. CEM professionals maintain their certification through ongoing education, instruction, participation, service and leadership.

Gross has been with the City for two years. Previously he worked at the Orange County California Sheriff Office of Emergency Management.
