Review: Señor Taco

Bookmark and Share

My family recently visited Señor Tacos. We've been thinking we needed to find a good "hole-in-the-wall" Mexican place in the area and we finally got away from our usual chain restaurants and tried Señor Tacos. The first thing I noticed was that it is situated next to a gun store that was surprisingly busy for a Saturday morning. ST was decently filled and doing a brisk business itself, but there was still plenty of parking.

I am really hesitant to call ST a "hole-in-the-wall." I really liked the decor, someone obviously spent a lot of time on the walls, each wall a different vibrant color, all meticulous faux-finish. There was lots of really nice looking Mexican-style art on the walls and around the counter posters advertising local events. A TV high up in one corner played a soap opera in Spanish, but the sound wasn't too loud to be too distracting for gringos like us.

The shop was doing a brisk business, lots of people eating the food.

We were surprised at the limited selection on the menu and thought the prices were a little high. The service friendly and the food was served very quickly.

The presentation of the food was nothing elaborate, but that's not really the point, is it? I had the Torta with Asada. I was excited to pick this sucker up and take a big bite.

My wife had a large burrito. Not much you can do to change the appearance of a burrito on a plate. Unfortunately, we felt that the food itself was, well, like the presentation. Uninspired and a little bland.

Two very hot sauces were available on the table. Too hot for our tastes. If we were fans of really hot sauces, they would probably add some spice to the food. However, I'd like to think of salsas as complementing a food, not a requirement for taste. (Unless, perhaps, a less intense salsa had been made available.)

I have heard from others who have eaten here and enjoyed it. I think I would give them another shot. Anyone been who's got a recommendation they'd like to share in the comments?

I generally stay clear from any type of hot sauce but I found the green sauce at ST to be quite mild and tasty. You should give the green sauce a shot next time your in.
