One-stop shopping for development review now at Federal Way City Hall

Residents and businesses working on development issues in Federal Way can now get the bulk of their local needs met in one place -- City Hall.

As of last month, the Lakehaven Utility District stationed a member of its Development Services staff at City Hall between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 4 p.m. This means that preliminary review of water and sewer system work can be better coordinated with the City’s regular development review activities.

The Lakehaven representative joins the City’s development review team and reps from South King Fire and Rescue, who handle fire permits. The only permit review that isn’t handled in some fashion at City Hall is health related, for example food handling. Health permits are issued through the King County Health Department.

"Simply locating an employee from Lakehaven at City Hall will in many cases cut the time it takes developers to get through the review process," said Greg Fewins, interim director of the City’s Community Development Department.

Lakehaven’s General Manager Don Perry explained. "Often a property owner goes intothe City’s permitting process well in advance of the utility’s development process. Sometimes this can lead to delays in the project. By putting a Lakehaven staff member at City Hall, we’ve increased the likelihood that the processes will track more closely and save time for all involved."

Lakehaven will continue to perform the bulk of its development review business at its First Avenue South location.
