Federal Way City Council makes mayor and deputy mayor appointments

At its regular meeting on Jan. 2, the Federal Way City Council appointed Jack Dovey to the mayor position and Eric Faison to the deputy mayor position. The vote was unanimous on both appointments. Dovey and Faison will each serve two-year terms. The Council postponed making appointments to its committee structure until its Jan. 15 meeting.

Mayor Jack Dovey

Dovey was appointed to the City Council in 1995. He was elected to the Council later that year and served through 1999. He was re-appointed to the Council in January 2003, elected later that year, and then was re-elected in November 2007. His term expires in 2011. He serves as a board member of enterpriseSeattle, is a past President of the Federal Way Kiwanis, and managed an American Little League Team.

Dovey moved to Federal Way in 1968 and was part of Decatur High School’s first graduating class in 1973. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in geography from Oregon State University. Dovey owns a wireless telephone consulting business in Federal Way. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Jackson and Jeneca.

Deputy Mayor Eric Faison

Faison also began his Federal Way City Council career with an appointment, his in 2001. He was re-elected later that year and served a four-year term. He was re-elected in 2005, and his term expires in 2009. Before joining the Council, he served on the City’s Planning Commission from 1998 to 2000. Faison knows local government. Besides his efforts in Federal Way, he splits his time between being the administrator for the Town of Woodway, Wash., and the community and governmental affairs manager for the City of University Place, Wash.

Faison served on the Puget Sound Regional Council and currently serves on the King County Growth Management Planning Committee. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from the University of Washington, and a law degree from Drake University. Faison has lived in Federal Way since 1997.

It's pathetic. Not even the Council's press release can give a good reason for why Dovey was chosen as mayor, other than that he's been on the council a long time. When will we ever get a Mayor chosen based on accomplishment, values, or wisdom? Maybe after Feb. 19!
